9 de julio = dia de la independencia and.....

also abuela Edda's 83th birthday! She wanted to celebrate her day in el campo (countryside) so we headed to Estancia Don Silvino just one hour outside of BA.
Experience a taste of Argentina's campo.

A few countries represented at lunch: South Africa, Mexico, France, Sweden, can't remember the others; USA just me but I almost don't count.

next time we'll have to plan to spend the night in this cozy old timey hotel.

upon arrival: the empanadas were so yummy I failed to realize I was surrounded by chickens. In one photo there is one right at my feet and I never knew it. I would have flipped.

First carriage ride smooth sailing, We decided to go again to accompany Alma. This ride, for the kids anyways, got a little muddy. The carriage got stuck or rather horses got lazy. A nice guacho came along to help out. Then this unexperienced "guacho" decided he wanted to try the horses out and again and came around full speed "REVENGE" What was he thinking??????? The horses stopped and carriage stuck for the second time. Not sure the amount of brains these guachos have, I was ready to send this one to a funny farm.
My only complaint about the estancia Don Silvano was that all the horses were rather thin and not well groomed :( They fed us well but I'm afraid the horses are over looked.

Lunch and show. Mati on stage dancing Tango. He won the hearts of a few dozen.

Mati and the head honcho, totally in his element.

This pic looks familiar no? Race of the rings. The honcho above told a story that the sport was created with the intention of winning hearts. Race to win the hearts of the senoritas. Legend says that the guacho wins the ring (sortija) then gives it to his chosen lady in return he ask for a simple kiss. If the lady is already taken her other half approaches and kisses the horse. We saw several men today kissing horses.
a picture paints a thousand words
